Things I Tried + Loved | October 2021

Nov 5, 2021

I'm sad to say goodbye to October, but alas, here we are in November. No hate to November! I will just miss having everyone collectively enjoy Halloween for an entire month. Now, I must go back to celebrating it on my own for the rest of the year lmao. Kidding. Sort of. I mentioned my October details last month as well as in the email newsletter (be sure to sign up on the sidebar!) so I won't bore you with redundancy. Let's look at what's to come in November.

For me, November is the start of good food and holidays. There's nothing quite as delicious as holiday food! I'm excited for all the new products to try, all the new recipes to experiment with, all of it! I will also miss some traditional foods that I used to have when I wasn't vegan, like Pepper Pot, a classic Guyanese Christmas dish. But perhaps this is the year I try to veganize some Guyanese holiday meals... it won't be easy. But it will be fun! I'm also looking forward to our first Christmas in the new house. Christmases in apartments are cozy and cute but there's nothing like a home decked out in holiday decor and a BIG tree. Our trees have been so tiny for years. I miss the huge 8-foot tree like my mom has. I can't wait to have one for myself starting this year. Anyway, let's backtrack a little bit to share what I discovered in October. And don't you worry, gift lovers, a Holiday Gift Guide will be up on the blog in the upcoming weeks!

What to expect: Mini (no BS) reviews of products/experiences, affiliate links, and discounts.

And with that, let's get started with October's favorites!

month recommendations october 2021 gift guide
cornstalk outdoor decor | This piece of decor is suitable for at least the month of November, it's not exclusive to Halloween. I will say it brings a lot of charm to the front of the house, too! You can find them super cheap, especially at Home Depot or Michaels.

brown aesthetic clicky keyboard | This keyboard is aesthetic perfection. From the brown color palette to the clicky clacky delight, you need this keyboard. It's wireless, seems easy to clean, and beautiful.

acrylic laptop standMost laptop stands are way too mechanic-looking. I don't want to feel like I'm in a traditional office anymore. If you're looking for a sleek and pretty laptop stand, this is the way to go. Also helps with posture!!

muji dotted notebookWhat I appreciate most about Muji is their consistency for simplicity. All of their products scream minimalist which makes me happy. Their notebooks are compact, clean, functional, and cheap!! Don't overlook their stationary!

electric stove fireplace | We were planning a DIY fireplace until we realized it wouldn't work with our baseboard heating. So we went the "electric stove" route which basically looks like a mini fireplace that doesn't need to be attached to any wall. We LOVE the cozy, homey look.

ikea french press | What caught my interest with this was the sleek and clean design. But it also works fantastically and can hold a lot of coffee! I've been using it every single day to give my espresso machine a break.
unreal chocolateWe got these chocolates for trick or treaters and luckily we had some leftover to try ourselves. Not only are all their varieties delicious but you can feel good knowing the brand is vegan, fair trade, and have tons of great initiatives.

xochitl tortilla chips | How did we stumble upon these godly chips? They had a black and orange variety for Halloween. But omg. These are the thinnest, crispiest, most addictively delicious tortilla chips!!

whole foods vegan chocolate chip cookies | Confession: Someone else influenced me on this one! A close friend put me onto these cookies at Whole Foods and ya'll... try to find a location where they're not sold out. And let me know where cause they are so good and people are finding out!!

kite hill queso | I dare you to try this queso and tell me if you know it's vegan. This tastes EXACTLY like nacho cheese you get at the movies or something to go with your chips. I ate the entire thing by myself in less than a week. *Cashew intolerant people rejoice: This is almond-based!
other things.
hunt a killer interactive gamesA close friend brought this game over for Halloween and we spent hours investigating a murder with tons of interactive evidence pieces to go through! Most games like this bore me quickly, but not this time. It is SO fun and I want to play more!

That's all the recs for this month - let me know if you're picking up anything mentioned here. And if you have specific items you'd like me to test/link, feel free to send a message and I'll work that out for you. See you in November!
